We do have designs for feature, but I think it's great to get this out now, as it is, to get feedback from you guys on where you would like to take it Would you mind answering my question whether the original icons in the overview will get removed or will stay too with this change? DeBingJos wrote:Great work, but 2 things really need to be done before this hts TQ I want to address this because it touches a bit on general EVE strategy.
Let's say you have a choice between two different versions of this system: A as it stands now on Singularity (per devblog and video) and B that would include more features and functionality; but then at different times since more development would be needed for B, you can get A on 24 Apr but could get B at some later time (and you would not get A during that time).
Why would you pick B?
I could understand it if you all had completely lost faith in us iterating (e.g., on the UI) but I'm hoping that we have been demonstrating in the last 6 months (since we started on Crucible) our commitment to iteration and incremental improvements, in particular UI improvements.
Barring that then A would appear to be the obvious choice, right?
Let me complicate the example a bit:
- A is the version on Singularity
- A1 is the version that will appear on Tranquility with some extra polish (NOTE: I'm not making promises on CCP karkur's behalf; she may be able to add something, but perhaps there won't be any time given other things that are ongoing before the deployment; quite possibly then A = A1)
- A2 is a future version that we develop based on the future designs we already have, based on actual usage on Tranquility, and based on your feedback from using the feature on Tranquility
- B is a future version that we develop based on the future designs we already have, but not based on actual usage on Tranquility, and not based on your feedback from using the feature on Tranquility
Isn't it better to get A/A1 now and A2 later vs. getting B later? Both because you will have A/A1 until that later time and because A2 will be a more polished system than B (given the extra feedback; and keep that feedback coming!). Erlendur S. Why would you pick B? It is understandable why players who don't know about CCP background on iterating whould pick A, but it's more interesting why wouldn't you pick B over A as a developer? Because it makes more sense to us to come up with a staged future design, implement the first stage, get that first stage into the hands of the players, get feedback, validate or modify the later stages, repeat. Players get something tangible and valuable sooner and we get data and other feedback to iterate on the future design.

Date has been added back to it if you mouse over it. How? When I mouse over it, all I get is a tool tip that says "Open Calendar." I actually have to open the calendar to see the date, which is annoying as hell. Try it on the Singularity test server. Erlendur S. Seems like it would be much easier to implement to me and I don't see why it would've been any less effective. But that's just my opinion. A complete UI overhaul in one go is an unrealistic endeavor, in terms of time and manpower required and in terms of code changes it would bring at one time. We have a future UI vision and based on that we need to incrementally and iteratively improve the Ul. That's the practical way of doing it in terms of resources and is proper risk management in terms of code changes. Erlendur S. Your iterative approach is less risky but I feel it would be more progressive to iterate in chunks rather than one small thing at a time. We will do it in a balance of smaller iterations and chunks. You will see one such chunk in a devblog from CCP Optimal and CCP Arrow soon (and on SiSi in the next couple of weeks). Erlendur S. Rek Seven wrote:CCP Explorer, i have a question for you; A few days ago someone posted a link to an old eve trailer (i think the thread was titled "blast from the past"). The video showed was appeared to be some old in-game footage. It looked to me that the game used to have a 3-d mini-map in the bottom right hand corner of the screen. What happened to that mini-map? Can you find and post that link? It's not that long ago that we had the ability to have multiple render targets (when we added the current fitting screen, the IGB2 browser and the preview windows) and such functionality would have been required to have a mini-3D map on screen.
